Quick answer

Choose HOLD to put the snack in your hand, then press X to enter placement mode. Place it where the Striders can see you without actively attacking, then back away.

Follow these steps

Select HOLD on the Strider snack.
With the snack in your hand, press X—the key described by the developer—to enter placement mode.
Place it while the Strider can see you but is not actively attacking.
Back away so it has room to approach.

If X does nothing

You are not the only player reporting this. Several replies describe placement failing specifically with Strider snacks; one player also reports that rebinding did not help. The developer requested screenshots or a video of the attempt. The thread does not establish a reliable fix for every affected player, so repeating these steps is not a guaranteed workaround.
